DAY 1
Western Reserve Greenway Warren Ohio July 8 2023
Our first ride on the Greenway from Warren to Orwell was pretty straightforward. In fact there were very few curves and not much to look at until we got to the boggy area pictured below. We only saw about 30 other riders which was very surprising on a Saturday. But the trail was well maintained and paved which is always appreciated. I did miss having a river to follow and there weren't any bridges or tunnels. The train on this route carried coal and iron ore. One other interesting fact about the area. The "Underground Railroad" shadowed the rail trail and Ashtabula, the terminus, was a main station for moving escaped slaves into Canada. We rode 43+ miles and had to deal with some light rain on the ride back. Dennis found us a great place to have dinner and we went from starving to stuffed. All together a great day. Tomorrow Orwell to Ashtabula.
