SEDALIA DEPOT START OF TRAIL
This was our starting point.  We had a very interesting presentation here.  Sedalia has a unique history.  Cattle were driven here and loaded on trains headed for Chicago. So cowboys herding the cattle came into their pay here and proceeded to spend it.  If you're old enough you might remember the TV show Rawhide which made Clint Eastwood famous.  They mentioned Sedalia often and the actors came here one time for some sort of publicity.
The other bit of history that put Sedalia on the map was that Scot Joplin played Jazz here and became quite well known.  One song "the Mapleleaf Rag was very well known.  He eventually went to NY lived too high a life and died at the age of 49 in 1917. He was known as the King of Ragtime.  Remember the movie, The Sting, that song was Scot Joplin's.
