April 17, Day 4 Farmville Virginia

This picture was supposed to be last. It's the end of the trail

We rode the Eastern section the High Bridge Trail today and saw how it got its name.

Named by the chief engineer for the South Side Railroad who said (in 1854) There may be bridges higher and there may be bridges longer but this is the largest bridge given height and length in the world.  There are 21 brick piers supporting 2400 feet reaching 125 feet high.  The piers are still there!!!!  It was completed in 1852.

The eastern section was just 31 miles round trip.  We were back at the car by noon and enroute to Christianburg, our layover before riding the Virginia Creeper tomorrow.

Loved the town, loved the trail, really loved the bridge!!!!
