This shot was taken by another rider, Joe.  He likes to film everything.  I've seen him taking photos while riding no hands.  He and his wife are touring the country taking rides wherever for the next 2 months.  This is Debbie our tour guide and just super nice person. One more thing.  We're thoroughly enjoying Missouri.  It's a state that has a lot to be proud of.

This is a sculpture at the train station. This is the difference between a "supported" ride and unsupported.  There were snacks at the stops in addition to first aid supplies. One of the many little scenic bridges. This is the entire group, 23 riders.  I am in the neon far left.  Dennis is in the white third left. We started our ride about 9:30 and stopped for lunch about 12:00.  It was a great little cafe in Pilot Grove.  Then after a really nice outdoor lunch with fellow riders we started out again.  We didn't get far and it started to sprinkle.  The nice thing about e-bikes; we can really speed up if we have to.  So we amped it up a bit and were the first in.  Got one of the rooms that was ready and on the first floor.  "Get there first" always a good motto.   We're staying in a casino in Boonesville so we thought we would do a little gambling.  We were able to obtain one free play $10 Caesar's reward card.  We totally ...

SEDALIA DEPOT START OF TRAIL This was our starting point.  We had a very interesting presentation here.  Sedalia has a unique history.  Cattle were driven here and loaded on trains headed for Chicago. So cowboys herding the cattle came into their pay here and proceeded to spend it.  If you're old enough you might remember the TV show Rawhide which made Clint Eastwood famous.  They mentioned Sedalia often and the actors came here one time for some sort of publicity.   The other bit of history that put Sedalia on the map was that Scot Joplin played Jazz here and became quite well known.  One song "the Mapleleaf Rag was very well known.  He eventually went to NY lived too high a life and died at the age of 49 in 1917. He was known as the King of Ragtime.  Remember the movie, The Sting, that song was Scot Joplin's.

SELFIE WITH DENNIS AND WINSTON CHURCHILL

MERRIWETHER LEWIS AND WILLIAM CLARK WITH SEAMAN Jefferson commissioned Lewis and Clark to explore the newly purchased  Louisiana Purchase in 1804.  Their purpose was to find a route to the Pacific and to befriend the native indian tribes.  No idea what Seaman's job was.  It must have been quite an adventure.  There are lots of books written about it, both fact and historical fiction.   A SECTION OF THE IRON CURTAIN On our way to Sedalia, by bus.  We stopped at Westminster College in Fulton to see the Winston Churchill Museum.  It turns out the college invited Churchill to speak there in 1946.  The college president was able to get the invite to speak in front of President Truman, a Missourian, who then promised Churchill that he would introduce him if he came to speak.  You can probably see the speech on YouTube.  It's the famous "Iron Curtain" speech warning westerners of the Cold War threat from Russia.  When the Wall came do...

End of the Trail I'm having a lot of trouble uploading pictures due to the WiFi here so I'll try from Sedalia which is our next stop and the start of our trail riding. DANIEL BOONE We have finally arrived in St Charles MO and what a delightful historic town.  We're staying right on Main Street which is loaded with little touristy shops and restaurants.  We like it because it is right on the Katy Trail.  We were able to check in when we arrived at 11:00so we rode a part of the trail not included by Road Scholar to Machens.  Just 26 miles round trip.

tree carving on alternate route Jones Falls Trail We just can't escape downed trees!!!  This is on the Jones Falls trail just after Mount Washington.  Fortunately we had another route we could take, South Bend Rd. which is a beautiful street, lined with old Mt Washington homes where we saw the tree carving pictured above.  It was a beautiful day and we enjoyed the ride immensely.  Can't wait for them to finish construction at Druid Hill Reservoir so that we can ride into the city.  Maybe next year.
